Adlershof – Cranes As Far As The Eye Can See
Editorial by Katrin Lompscher, Senator for Urban Development and Housing
For more than two decades, construction cranes have been spinning in Adlershof. The location in the southeast of Berlin is developing magnificently and extremely dynamically.
A city within the city has evolved, with people living, working, and doing research: Berlin Adlershof has become a lively urban district. Aside from 360 single-family homes located directly at the landscape park, the Wohnen am Campus quarter has experienced rapid growth over the past years. Since 2012, more than 1,500 apartments have been created, many of them being rental flats. For the most part, they are complete and occupied.
Meanwhile, construction continues: further new apartment complexes are currently being developed, for instance the extension of the Wohnen am Campus quarter and the project on Straße am Flugplatz. All in all, more than 3,000 apartments are planned along with the necessary social infrastructure.
The area alongside Rudower Chaussee and Groß-Berliner Damm is booming: companies and scientific institutions are taking up their business while families, couples and singles move into their new homes and shops, restaurants and bistros open. At the same time, heavy investment activities into the city of science’s social infrastructure continue. A school site is being planned, and the new daycare centre, established by the “Johanniter” in June 2017, has enjoyed great acceptance.
The growing number of new establishments at the science and technology park strikingly shows that project developers and technology-oriented manufacturing businesses continue to harbour an ongoing interest in the location of Berlin Adlershof.
The same holds true for the city of media or the retail and service sectors where the number of employees is on the rise.
It is precisely this mix of business, residential living, and science that has made Adlershof the lively, urban and sought-after place it is today. You can feel the dynamics at every turn. Berlin Adlershof is superbly positioned for the future.
