5th IKZ Winter School connects players from science and industry
50 participants from Germany and abroad met in Adlershof to discuss materials & devices for power electronics
Power electronics is a booming industry market due to electromobility in automotive and the ramp up of renewable energy supply. The market is characterized by different materials & device technologies depending very much on the power handling level.
The “Leibniz-Institut für Kristallzüchtung (IKZ)” in Berlin and the Fraunhofer Institute for Integrated Systems and Device Technology (IISB) in Erlangen organized a winter school to bring together interested students with major actors from academia & industry. Each material was presented by one materials and one device talk to discuss the relationship between materials quality & device performance. Of special interest was the opportunity to discuss the potential of new materials like AlN & Ga2O3 to enter power electronics markets where established approaches show limits in terms of cost & performance. More than 50 national and international colleagues attended the workshop in presence or online. We wish to thank all participants for the vivid discussions and all invited speakers for their high quality presentations.
