A small industrial park with great synergy effects

The former people-owned enterprise VEB Medizinische Geräte Berlin on Segelfliegerdamm

Small business enterprises form part of a vibrant quarter. In the future, the premises of the former people-owned enterprise VEB Medizinische Geräte Berlin on Segelfliegerdamm will offer custom-fit areas for just such businesses.

Purchased in 2010 by state of Berlin, the 4-hectare compound to the west of the development zone had to be extensively cleared and is now providing space for smaller businesses ready to fill the gap and locate here. In the science location's other industrial estates, emphasis has been placed on larger areas ranging from 5,000 to 20,000 square metres. By contrast, the plots on Segelfliegerdamm start from 1,000 square metres in size and are tailored to the demands of smaller enterprises. "Already, mechanics and service providers find their customers in the immediate vicinity, and suppliers will be able to cooperate even closer with their partners at the technology park," explains Adlershof Projekt GmbH's Head of Sales Ute Hübener.

These synergy effects are exemplified by the three enterprises that first purchased areas adjacent to the new industrial estate. Ranging between 1,300 and 1,600 square metres in size, these plots delimit the eastern part of the area bordering on Melli-Beese-Straße.

Budatec is a developer and manufacturer of automation solutions for semiconductor and solar industries. The company is a perfect match to numerous microsystem technology and photovoltaic enterprises at Adlershof's technology park. One of its most important partners in automation technology is located no more than a few hundred meters away. In June 2014, Budatec purchased the plot. Start of construction works on the production building is scheduled for later this year.

Drews engineering office also decided to locate on a plot on the area along Melli-Beese-Straße. Specialising in concrete repair, renovation and building services, Drews is benefitting from the unabated construction boom in the capital as well as at the location.

Early this year, serigraphy and digital print company Novak went into operation in a new production and office building on Melli-Beese-Straße. Equally well connected at the location, Novak is closely cooperating with a local colour supplier. The company prides itself on counting some of Berlin's world-famous museums among its clients. At the end of 2014 construction of the access road will be completed.

Even before that the last reminders of the area's extensive renovation, the remaining water measuring points, are scheduled to be removed. "We can start to layout and sale the plots as soon as the clearing work and the access road are completed," says Ute Hübener.
