A swift path to comfortable living
Germany's leading construction and property development company NCC recognised Adlershof's potential
The step from theory to practice is one that researchers, entrepreneurs and students at the science location of Adlershof in Berlin's Treptow-Köpenick district take on a daily basis. It is a crucial step towards a promising future. It's just as well that Germany's leading construction and property development company NCC is keeping pace, swiftly turning their construction and housing projects at Adlershof's new "Wohnen am Campus" area into reality.
A popular saying has it that Berlin is poor, but sexy – and that compared to the rest of Germany, living costs are still quite affordable. This may indeed have been the case until not too long ago. More recently, however, supply has been lagging behind demand, and many projects designed to remedy this dilemma are a long way from being finished.
One big project developer, however, has not missed a beat. Synonymous with respectable housing development throughout Berlin, Brandenburg and, in fact, now Germany-wide, NCC has already gone about turning their good ideas into practice. Having recognised the location's potential at an early stage, NCC's managing director Michael Krüger explains: “By now, we are no longer selling printed paperwork, but actual square metres." By the end of 2014 the first condominiums will be ready for occupancy while further apartment buildings are already being built. Those who prefer living in a townhouse can closely inspect NCC's readyfurnished model home: “a test which has, traditionally, yielded very positive results as we build everything from a single source," Krüger adds. Next to NCC's longstanding experience of 50 years in construction, the company's ever-fresh architecture has been inspired by a fair amount of Swedish lifestyle drawn from the business's Scandinavian roots.
The ample choice in apartments and houses creates immediate smiles on the faces of many interested clients. While the size of living areas generally ranges from 60 to 170 square metres, some of the semi-detached and terraced houses feature generously laid out living areas of 210 square metres in size. Facilities include garages, roof terraces, parquet floors and pantries, illustrating NCC's philosophy of providing comfortable living from the first day of occupancy.
