Acoustic camera: A camera that sees noise
Noise is meant to be heard and not seen – at least that was the case until the Society for the Promotion of Applied Computer Sciences (Gesellschaft zur Förderung angewandter Informatik, GFaI) introduced their latest innovation. The Acoustic Camera developed by GFaI applies a technology that makes sound waves and their reflections visible so they can be analyzed. The technology can be useful wherever noise pollution is identified as an environmental concern. It is no wonder that the greatest demand for the Acoustic Camera originates from the manufacturers of aircraft and automobiles, wind power generators, home appliances, or building/room acoustics. The Acoustic Camera can also be found in the hands of those studying artificial knee joints and the flight patterns of bats. Since 2006, the production and marketing of the Acoustic Camera has been transferred to gfai tech GmbH. The company has by now successfully sold a substantial number of the Acoustic Camera to customers in over 14 countries.
