Student accommodation in Adlershof: The “Medienfenster” Project
114 fully furnished one-room apartments and 39 compact and functionally layouted 1.5 to 3-room units
On Rudower Chaussee, a new apartment building is being developed, its modern architecture deliberately taking up on the location‘s tradition and forging a bridge to present-day Adlershof: the “Medienfenster”. Initiated by Grundstein Development GmbH, the project was named after the two-storeyed passageway connecting the tower and the main building of the complex. Much like a window, it offers a view on the media location situated in the backdrop.
”The seven-storeyed tower emphasises the ‘media window’s’ function as a gateway to Adlershof,” stresses Ivan Reimann, architect and professor for building theory and design at Dresden Technical University. Similarly, the building’s interior is perfectly suited for Adlershof. After all, its 114 fully furnished one-room apartments and 39 compact and functionally layouted 1.5 to 3-room units including WLAN, modern kitchenettes and bicycle storage meet the mobility demands of the local urban student generation. The project has been appealing even during the construction phase: “Adlershof is in urgent need of affordable up-to-date living quarters,” says Adlershof Projekt GmbH’s Sales and Marketing Manager Ute Hübener who is charged with the site development. “Having accompanied the Medienfenster project since the beginning of the planning phase, we welcome the 153 new student apartments at the location.”
It is no coincidence that Grundstein Development GmbH, the project’s builder-owner, is investing in student accommodation at Adlershof: “Adlershof’s rapid development is far from completed,” explains Dirk Germandi, one of the project’s initiators. Bernd Albrecht also feels confident about the Medienfenster project’s success. The supervisor opted for the relocationof his office to Adlershof years ago. Albrecht’s prediction rings true, for although the leasing of the Mediafenster is just about to begin, there have already been inquiries from students and teaching staff interested in the micro-apartments. Similarly, interest has already been shown in the retail spaces on the ground floor.
