Sustained urban development for "Wohnen am Campus"
The construction and redevelopment projects of Berlin’s leading housing association degewo are characterised by cost-effectiveness and sound social judgement. this also applies to the new residential quarter in Adlershof. Degewo executive board member Christoph Beck explains the background.
ADLERSHOF SPECIAL: Mr. Beck, what are degewo’s considerations in chosing its construction projects?
CHRISTOPH BECK: Being a communal housing association, degewo follows the business model of retaining and administering apartments for the long term. After having redeveloped residential properties in the city’s eastern part over the past years, we are now able to realise new potentials. In so doing, we are considering the mandate to provide affordable living quarters for broad sections of the population while meeting requirements such as demographic change, climate protection or the particular dynamics of our city.
How do your plans regarding the “Wohnen am Campus“ project in Adlershof fit in with this concept?
Adlershof is most interestingly situated between the city centre and the new airport. It is a newly developed and prospering location underserved with apartments. Given this particular situation and the customers we expect, we are convinced of being able to both build and let profitably here. Our project will comprise 80 living units, mainly two-room and three-room apartments.
Which groups are you targeting?
The entire on-site staff, young professionals, newcomers to the research and development location Adlershof, the many students and, of course, anybody who appreciates the vicinity to the airport and the fast connection to the city.
What about time frames?
As soon as the acquisition is completed in autumn 2011 we will announce a Europe-wide tender for planning and construction services. It will then take about two-and-ahalf to three years until the apartments are completed. However, interested parties are welcome to contact us at any time.
